Pregnancy

October 2 [40 weeks]
Ultrasound. Spek and I watch the baby swallow, and on the monitor we hear his heartbeat accelerate every time he makes a big move (this time 9 times in 20 minutes). He's due tomorrow...

September 25 [39 weeks]
Ultrasound. Oma Femia gets a tour of the baby baby on screen. It's getting harder to see a good picture of him, but the nurse explains a lot and the baby still seems to be doing very good.

September 18 [37.5 weeks]
Ultrasound. Spek joins me and we both now see the dimple in the baby's chin! He seems to still have enough space to move around and looks pretty comfortable, so I think he'll probably stay where he is for now...

September 14 [37 weeks]
BABY SHOWER!! Dieuwke and Sanne picked me up and we drove up to Dolores Park. Britta had put up colorful balloons and a "Nijntje-slinger" between the palm trees. The picnic table was totally covered with all kinds of good food, so we had a pretty extensive lunch with a great view of the city. The weather cooperated, so it was nice in the sun and cool in the shade. (as opposed to the days before, when it was almost too hot to sit outside in the shade)
After our lunch, we skipped the traditional baby shower-games and went straight to unwrapping the presents. I - or actually our baby boy - is totally spoiled by my girlfriends! It still feels a little weird getting presents for a boy who's not even born yet, but I'm sure he will enjoy everything very much! It was a wonderful day!

September 10 [36 weeks]
Ultrasound. Annedien comes with me and the nurse shows the baby's chubby face again. Of course we could also see his feet, spine etc., but he's still moving around a lot, so especially his feet and hands move in and out of the picture all the time.

August 13 [33 weeks]
Ultrasound. Nurse sees a dimple in his chin (she hasn't seen Spek yet!) He already has some hair and very chubby cheeks.

August 8 [32 weeks]
Ultrasound. Thigh bone length is 6 cm. His head (9cm x 12cm?!!) is still down, his body on the left, and his feet on the  right. This time he's covering his face with his hands, so unfortunately no "show" for us today.

June 27 [25.5 weeks]
Ultrasound. The nurse took some time to show the baby swallowing, sucking on his hand, and sticking out his tongue.
Due date: September 29^th

May 15 [19.5 weeks]
Ultrasound. Leg length is 8cm. It's a boy!! Opa Derk was also there to see a "Mondriaan-like" picture of his grandson-to-be (he's already too 'big' to fit on the screen)..

March 21 [11.5 weeks]
Ultrasound. Length is 6.22cm and he moves around like crazy.
Due date: September 30^th

- 2 -
February 24 [8 weeks]
Ultrasound shows a tiny head and body with a rapidly beating heart. Crown to rump length is 1.94cm.
Due date: October 3^rd

January 30 [4.5 weeks]
Home pregnancy test is positive!
